About Andy

Andrew “Andy” J. Bertke uses his business and analytical skills combined with in-depth tax knowledge to provide clients with sound tax planning ideas and compliance matter resolution. Andy’s methodical, meticulous approach gives his clients great peace of mind – knowing he’s examined the facts, eliminated assumptions, and explored every avenue to find the right solution.

As the leader of Barnes Dennig’s tax consulting practice and a member of the AICPA’s tax section, Andy and his dedicated tax professionals ensure clients maximize every opportunity the tax code allows. He keeps a vigilant eye on the ever-changing federal, state, and local tax laws to keep his clients ahead of the curve and resolve complex tax matters involving income, sales and use, and property tax conflicts.

Andy is also a Personal Financial Specialist (PFS), a designation granted exclusively to CPAs who have met the financial planning requirements established by the AICPA. Being a PFS and a CPA means he can address his clients’ comprehensive financial planning needs and tax implications, creating a holistic view that maximizes wealth and minimizes the tax burden.

Never satisfied with what’s on the surface, Andy digs in to understand every detail and assemble a complete picture. That helps him give his clients great advice and makes him an outstanding forensic accountant. He holds the AICPA’s Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) credential, which is reserved exclusively for CPAs with considerable forensic accounting expertise. This skill set allows him to contribute specialized forensic accounting skills in various areas and develop a comprehensive picture of even the most complex situations.

He has more than 30 years of experience in public accounting, including regional and international accounting firms. He also co-founded a local CPA firm which combined with Barnes Dennig in 2014.

Andy holds a Bachelor of Business Administration, with Honors, from the University of Kentucky with a major in accounting. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from Xavier University with a concentration in taxation. He is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in Kentucky. He also serves on the Crestview Hills Office Park Economic Analysis Steering Committee.

Andy fell in love with horseracing when his college statistics professor used it to teach probability, and he’s been committed to the sport ever since – his office is even decorated with racing silks. And, given his drive to look beneath the surface, it might not surprise you that Andy’s a dedicated SCUBA diver who enjoys exploring the waters at his many travel destinations. While his travels have taken him all over the world, a favorite international destination is the Mosel Valley in southern Germany with its castles, sweeping vistas, and outstanding Rieslings. Andy has a wicked-funny sense of humor and is a connoisseur of olives and pickles.

Love Andy Bertke and the support he has provided us over the years.

Andy is one of the best accountants that I know. He always makes time for us, no matter what is going on. He is very patient, kind, and has a great sense of humor which helps when talking about money. He is able to figure out a different approach for each person at our company that he works with, to match their level of understanding and financial issues. We are a success because of him!
